Death of Renowned Musician Saleem Hussain
On April 2, 1996, Pakistan’s famous musical duo, Saleem Akbar, lost his younger brother Saleem Hussain.
Saleem Hussain was born in Lahore in 1933. He learned classical music from his elder brother Iqbal Hussain and the legendary music maestro Ustad Sardar Khan. Later, he worked as an assistant to Feroz Nizami and contributed to the music of movies like “Dopatta” and “Chan Ve”. After the success of these films, Saleem Akbar decided to pursue music on his own. As a composer, his first film was “Sheikh Chilli”, whose melodies became famous overnight throughout the country. His other notable films include “Ghar Jawai”, “Kartar Singh”, “Jadugar”, “Darwaza”, “Baji”, “Mehndi Wale Hath”, “Ek Pardesi Ek Mutiyar”, “Phaney Khan”, “Madre Watan”, “Lut Da Mal”, “Mera Veer”, “Yaar Dost”, “Pakiza”, “Piya Milan Ki Aas”, and “Dukh Sajjnan De”.
Among Saleem Akbar’s compositions, the most famous and beloved melody is the song “Desan Da Raja Meray Babul Da Pyara” from the film “Kartar Singh”, which is still considered his signature tune.
