Maulana Ihtisham-ul-Haq Thanvi’s Death
On April 11, 1980, in the city of Madras, India, the renowned religious scholar Maulana Ihtisham-ul-Haq Thanvi passed away while he was on a preaching tour.
Maulana Ihtisham-ul-Haq Thanvi was born in 1915 in Thana Bhawan, a town in the Muzaffarnagar district of India. He was the nephew of the famous religious scholar Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi. Maulana Ihtisham-ul-Haq Thanvi was a graduate of Darul Uloom Deoband. He was a highly influential speaker and preacher. In Delhi, he used to deliver sermons every Friday before the Jumu’ah prayer in the Central Secretariat Mosque. The central assembly and members of the Council of State used to participate in this gathering in large numbers, including prominent figures such as Khwaja Nazimuddin, Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, Maulvi Tamizuddin, Sardar Abdul Rab Nishtar, Sir Abdul Halim Ghaznavi, and Ayub Khuhro.
After the establishment of Pakistan, he settled in Karachi. He served as a member of the Islamic Ideological Council, chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, and held other important religious and national council positions.
Maulana Ihtisham-ul-Haq Thanvi established Jamia Islamia on the pattern of Darul Uloom Deoband in Tando Allahyar. Thousands of students have graduated from this university so far.
Maulana Ihtisham-ul-Haq Thanvi rests in peace within the premises of his established mosque in Jacob Lines, Karachi.
