Suroor Barabankvi’s Death
The renowned poet, filmmaker, and director Suroor Barabankvi’s real name was Saeed ur Rahman. He was born on January 30, 1919, in Barabanki, UP, India.
After the creation of Pakistan, he initially settled in Karachi and then in Dhaka, where he began his film journey by writing dialogues for the film “Tanhayi”. He went on to write songs for films such as “Chanda Aur Chandni”, “Ahsaas”, “Sone Ki Chidiya”, and many others, which became quite popular. During this time, he also produced and directed three films: “Akhir Kyon”, “Tum Mere Ho”, and “Aashna Productions”.
In his final days, he wanted to make a film titled “Camp 333” in collaboration with Bangladesh. He was in Dhaka for this purpose when he passed away on April 3, 1980, due to a heart attack. His body was brought to Karachi, where he was laid to rest in the society’s graveyard.
Suroor Barabankvi’s two poetry collections, “Sang-e-Aftab” and “Sozgeeti”, have been published.
